We Have To Do Better Oklahoma, With Medical Marijuana

Eventually, the "new" wears off of everything. Doesn't matter what it is, a new thing quickly becomes a regular or old thing in due time. Medical marijuana is no different. We're rolling into the third year of medicinal freedom, and even I'm starting to notice things out of place while driving down the road.

I was sitting at the light on Cache by Lowe's, stuck behind some slow-driving Karen who decided 30MPH would be fitting for that one lane that merges into Quanah Parker traffic. Normally, I'm a pretty tunnel-vision type driver. Most lights down Cache road are timed pretty well, so if traffic flows, you can realistically drive from Texas Roadhouse to I-44 without stopping. Having just missed a yellow light, I had time to look around and let my mind wander for a moment. There was a lowered old school S-10 with Goodyear Wrangler tires on it. I thought it was an odd fit. To my right was an SUV with clear windows, no tint, and a driver taking a big ole puff off of one of those stupid looking swirly glass hitter weed pipes. It made me wonder, how many medicated drivers are on the road around me at that exact moment? The more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to think about it. That ain't cool.

Listen, I get it. I ain't no square. I'm a hardcore libertarian. If it only affects your own body, by all means you should be able to smoke meth or snort heroin in the privacy of your own home til your heart bursts if you so choose... but when it comes to being out in the general public, in control of a motor vehicle, you should be responsible enough with your marijuana freedom to adhere to the rules whether you agree with them or not. It's just the nature of the law. Whether you think it should or shouldn't be has zero bearing on whether it is or isn't. There's a lot more riding on your being responsible than just your rap sheet too. If driving while "medicating" or "medicated" becomes enough of a problem, the legislators that were against this from even being on a ballot will have the ammunition to take aim at total prohibition again. You want to be that person?
