Armed Forces Appreciation Day in Elmer Thomas Park
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday, May 19th and the City of Lawton has planned fun activities for everyone to enjoy the Nation's Biggest Armed Forces Appreciation Day. The parade will take place at Elmer Thomas Park.
The activities will begin at 10:00 am with the Armed Forces Day Parade. After the parade is over, the Lake Helen Amphitheater Stage Area near the new Playground in the Park will be alive with fun entertainment for the entire family.
According to Sharon Cheatwood, Arts Coordinator for the Arts & Humanities Division of the City of Lawton - "There will be a children's area with balloon bounce houses and face painting as well as performers on the main stage."
Cori Emmet will open the event at approximately 11:30am with an acoustic performance. Afterwards, The Arbuckle Xpress Band, described as a high energy country music machine, will perform.
Cheatwood said there will be lots of other activities at or near Elmer Thomas park;
- The Museum of the Great Plains will be open from 10am to 5pm with free admission with military ID.
- Sherri's Dance Center will present "Stars and Stripes" her 30th annual spring dance concert at McMahon Memorial Auditorium. There will be 3 shows at 1:30pm, 4:00pm and 7:30pm.
- Sports enthusiasts can cheer on competitors in the Armed Forces Disc Golf Tournament which is open to men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.
