Today, for Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday, we turn the spotlight on a friend, an artist from Knoxville, TN who has endured life's lows and who gained strength he now shares with others that have been where he once walked.

Jason Terry is a man who has been there, survived that. Born and raised in Oneida, TN, Jason got his first guitar when he was just 5 years old. He didn't know how to play, he just knew he wanted to play, and that he did for anyone who would listen. Music was a regular part of his life, intermixed with hunting, fishing and sports. One of his favorite memories was that of waking up early to go fishing with his grandfather. But as he grew into his teen years, Jason's life took on a darker side.

Addiction had taken over a major part of Terry's life and on September 20, 2013 he found himself at a cross roads. His music career had failed to take off as he had hoped and personal and relationship issues had taken its toll. He found himself standing in an open field with a loaded pistol, prepared to take his life, when a text from his mother changed his direction. The text read simply "maybe you should change your ways."

At that point Jason decided that the deep depression he was in was too much to take on alone. Later in the day he checked himself into a treatment facility where he allowed God back into his life. During his stay at the treatment facility, Terry began writing songs relating to his experiences with depression and addiction. These songs became his 2014 EP Letting Go.

The EP contained his first shot at the big time. The single "Green Light Go" and its video received it's world debut at klaw.com and went on to be featured at CMT.com and GreatAmericanCountry.com. On the strength of the EP and the single, Jason headed into the studio to begin work on his first full length album. On March 11th, Jason released the self-produced album The Good The Bad, And Truth, along with the album's lead single, released the same day, that song is in our spotlight today. Jason Terry and "Country As You" is our Unsigned/Indy Artist Thursday Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
