Oklahoma’s ‘False Fall’ Could Be a Real, Early Fall
Oklahoma is notorious for having what's called "false fall," which means the state gets a few days of cool weather in late summer before the excessive heat returns. Real fall doesn't usually arrive in Oklahoma until the end of October. But Oklahoma is experiencing a fall anomaly right now.
Several cold fronts are bringing temperatures well below average for this time of year, and most Oklahoma residents are calling "false fall," but now, some meteorologists are saying this is real fall.
Two cold fronts rolled through Oklahoma the last week of August and brought temperatures down across the state by 20 degrees or more. It was the perfect weather for the return of the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, but as Oklahoma residents sipped their PSL, they knew in the back of their minds that the fall-like weather may not last long.
Oklahoma will see an unusually cool Labor Day weekend.
Now that Labor Day weekend is upon us, Oklahoma residents are expecting a rare, cool end of summer holiday. And instead of anticipating temperatures warming back up for the first week of September, local meteorologists are expecting another cold front to move through Oklahoma and stating that the state's extreme heat may be no more for the rest of the year.

Oklahoma could see overnight lows in the 40s and 50s.
When the next cold front comes through, Oklahoma could see daytime highs in the upper 70s and low 80s, plus overnight lows could get into the 50s and possibly the 40s! For Oklahoma, the average daytime highs around this time of year are typically in the 90s. So the next strong cold front is expected to keep Oklahoma's temperatures down by 20 degrees at least through the first week of September.
Whether or not this anomaly is "false fall" or "real fall," Oklahoma residents are still going to enjoy their PSLs with a slight chill in the air.
