This Yellowstone Bison Video Is a Reminder Oklahoma Visitors Shouldn’t Ignore

While it's never a good thing to see someone get a little too close to the wildlife in any park around the country, one of us seems to volunteer as an example every single year in the most viral of videos.

Here's the reminder for 2026.

Now, I know what you're about to say because I said it too... I don't think this poor guy was that close to this bison, but we don't get to set that measurement, do we?

As far away as that is, and I'm just ballparking it to be 140 to 160 feet based on that gallop, that was enough to antagonize this behemoth to bring down the thunder on those two walking around Yellowstone National Park.

As he runs around the trees, it's only normal to root for him to make it to the safety of that car, but Mother Nature shows no mercy.

It's Just Nature

Honestly, this is likely just a simple case of mistaken identity.

The summer months are the peak mating season for the American bison. And if you've ever been deer hunting, as the hormones course through their veins, the less logical sense they make. They have only two things on their minds.

They're focused on mating first and foremost, and fighting off any rival males for the right to mate with the females.

This is the #1 reason so many deer get hit by vehicles during the rutting season in Oklahoma. Deer practically go blind with mating fever. And when something presents itself as a challenge to the old bull, things escalate quickly.

In this case, the clearly agitated bison seems to take off after that truck. It's likely rumbling at a very low frequency, presenting itself as a big noise-making object, and when it makes a quick getaway, the old man and his grandson are in the path.

Fortunately, 65-year-old Carl Isom-McDaniel came away from this incident with only a few scrapes and bruises... And one heck of a story to tell.

Let his experience be the reminder you need to stay away from the fluffy cows across Oklahoma. In a wild setting like the Tallgrass Prairie, Woolaroc, and Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, they aren't pets. They aren't domesticated...
