Oklahoma Braces For Dangerous Wind Chills This Weekend
It looks like the snow in Oklahoma is going to stick around a little bit longer. The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for a majority of the state this weekend.
More arctic air is expected to move into Oklahoma on Friday. The cold front is expected to bring in bitterly cold wind chills. The coldest wind chills are expected late Friday and into Saturday morning.
Seventy-four counties in Oklahoma are under a Cold Weather Advisory.
The only counties not in the Cold Weather Advisory are three counties within the Oklahoma panhandle. The rest of the state's counties are expected to experience bitterly cold temperatures this weekend.
The Cold Weather Advisory is set to go into effect at midnight Friday and will last through 11 a.m. Saturday. Counties within the advisory could see wind chills as low as 10 below zero to five above zero. If outside, hypothermia could occur if proper precautions are not taken.
Other precautionary/preparedness actions outlined in the advisory include using caution while driving, wear appropriate cold weather clothing and to keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Snow flurries are possible across Oklahoma on Saturday morning.
Portions of northern, western and central Oklahoma have a low chance for flurries Saturday morning. Flurries are expected to occur in the morning hours and move northwest to southeast.
Not much accumulation, if any at all, is expected. If there is any accumulation, it will be little and will most likely be in northwest Oklahoma. The state should not see any added accumulation to the snow already across Oklahoma.
