Cooler Temperatures and Increased Rain Chances Headed for Oklahoma
It looks like summer is on the way out and fall is headed to Oklahoma this Labor Day weekend! Oklahoma may have seen the last hot weekend of the summer this past weekend. And we'll have a few more warm days before a cold front moves in bringing cooler temperatures and increased rain chances.
Last week, Oklahoma saw several extremely warm days, with one at least being the hottest days of the summer. Some places in Oklahoma were even recorded as being the hottest place on Earth that day.
This week, the heat will persist Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but it won't be as hot as the previous week. The cold front is expected to arrive Friday, and temperatures will start creeping to below average for this time of year.
Rain chances are also expected to increase with Friday's cold front. Oklahoma has increased chances for rain starting Thursday and into the weekend.
How long will the cooler temperatures last in Oklahoma?
Everyone in Oklahoma wants to know if the fall-like weather is here to stay. Oklahomans have known September to be extremely hot - almost like a second summer. KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan posted on his official Facebook page that low temperatures in the 50s and 60s are expected to continue through Labor Day and into next week.
The NOAA's eight to 14 extended forecast expects Oklahoma to experience below average temperatures for September 2-8, so it looks like the first half of September will feel a bit more like fall than summer!
