Oklahoma Will Have a Mild Start to Fall This Year

Like almost every other year, Oklahoma is expected to endure a "second summer" before fall-like weather arrives. So it may be well after the first day of fall for Oklahomans to don a sweater and adequately enjoy a pumpkin spice latte.

AccuWeather recently released its fall forecast for the United States, and although meteorological fall starts on Sept. 1, most of the country won't be experiencing crisp, cool fall weather by then. And chillier temperatures still aren't expected even by the fall equinox on Sept. 22. AccuWeather's long-range forecast are predicting that the upcoming fall season will be a warm one.

How hot will the start of fall be in Oklahoma?

Although Oklahoma recently had a few days in August with temperatures below average thanks to a cold front, those days may be few or non-existent through September and possibly October.

As for the rest of August, the Oklahoma Mesonet posted on its Facebook page that Oklahoma is expected to have a 20 to 60 percent chance of excessive heat continue through much of August. From Aug. 21 through Aug. 27, half of Oklahoma may experience moderate excessive, while the rest will see slight excessive heat.

The Farmers' Almanac has predicted a brisk and shower-filled fall for Oklahoma.

Since the weather pattern is shifting towards a La Nina, we could see colder and stormer conditions this fall. Meteorological fall consists of September, October and November, so it wouldn't be surprising if Oklahoma had its second summer in September and October, and then one month of fall weather in November. We'll just have to wait and see!

(Fingers crossed that the second summer doesn't last too long.)
