Springtime in Oklahoma always means crazy weather. And this weekend there's total solar eclipse in the forecast.

Before the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, Oklahoma will have various types of of weather leading up to the historic event. This weekend will be filled with high winds, fire danger and, of course, severe storms.

High winds, fire danger and severe storms set for Saturday, April 4.

As we move into the weekend, the winds will pick up. Various areas of Oklahoma could see wind speeds up to 555 miles per hour with sustained south winds at 25-35 miles per hour. Blowing dust will be possible in some areas, especially in western Oklahoma and western north Texas.

With those high winds, there will be high fire danger across Oklahoma. A Fire Weather Watch is currently in effect for most of western Oklahoma starting at noon Saturday and through midnight Sunday.

While the western half and southwest areas of Oklahoma will be mostly worried about high winds and fire danger, northeast Oklahoma will be on the lookout for severe weather Saturday afternoon.

Monday, April 8, will see the solar eclipse and severe storms.

As we move into the beginning of week, everyone in Oklahoma will be anticipating the solar eclipse. Most of Oklahoma has the potential to see a partial solar eclipse will those in the southeast corner of the state could experience a total solar eclipse.

Areas of southwest Oklahoma and north Texas can also expect severe thunderstorms Monday. According to the National Weather Service in Norman, severe thunderstorms will be possible Monday and Tuesday with large hail and damaging wind gusts. Location and impacts are expected to change before then.
