On July 4, most Oklahomans will be spending the day outside either at the lake or cooking on the grill. A typical July 4 in Oklahoma sees lots of sunshine and sweltering heat. But it looks like this year Oklahoma could see cooler than average temperatures and rain on July 4.

According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, the daytime high temperatures in Oklahoma won't be too bad on July 4! Areas across Oklahoma could see daytime highs in the lower 80s and up into the lower 90s. And Oklahomans will take it. Anything is better than triple digit heat.

As for the rain, the National Weather Service in Norman is expecting showers and thunderstorms the morning of July 4 and chances could decrease into the afternoon and evening. But isolated thunderstorms are still possible during the afternoon of July 4. Oklahomans who will be outside for July 4 will want to keep their eyes on the sky, not only for fireworks, but also for scattered storms.

More cool temperatures and rain expected next week.

And it looks like the cooler temps and rain will stay around till the middle of July! Parts of Oklahoma, particularly the panhandle, could see below average temperatures July 9-15, while the rest of Oklahoma could see near normal temperatures.

And rain chances will continue to increase next week. From now through next Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Norman expects cooler than average temperatures with humidity, plus daily chances for showers and thunderstorms. If there weren't chances for rain, I'd say the next week of July is looking like perfect pool weather!

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

2025's Hottest Fireworks Picks

Shopping for fireworks is a lot like picking out a new vehicle. While you're interested in what a car or truck can do, we generally pick based on how they look. The fireworks store is full of sensory-overload designs and hilarious images, but logos rarely tell you what it does. We visited King Fireworks in Geronimo, OK, where they have a cool scanner system that pulls up the fireworks on TVs throughout the store so you can see what you're buying, but here are their top picks and best bangs for your buck this year.
