Over Seven Inches of Snow Has Fallen In Oklahoma, More On the Way
Snow might not be the most common form of precipitation in Oklahoma, but the panhandle of Oklahoma knows it all too well. A majority of Oklahoma is currently experiencing heavy rainfall and flash flooding, but the very tip of the Oklahoma panhandle is under a winter storm warning.
The winter storm warning is for Cimarron county, which is located at the very end of Oklahoma's panhandle. The winter storm warning is set to expire at 6 p.m. Friday, but the National Weather Service expects the county to receive an additional 10 inches of snow by then.
Black Mesa State Park has already received seven inches of snow.
Black Mesa State Park is located in Kenton, Oklahoma, and sits on the border of Oklahoma and New Mexico. The state park recently posted on its official Facebook page that as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the park had received approximately seven inches of snow. The state park also indicated that travel to the park is strongly discouraged.
Frost expected to move into northwest Oklahoma.
Areas of northern Oklahoma have already received their first freeze of the season. On Oct. 16, temperatures in northern Oklahoma reached temperatures below 32 degrees, giving these areas their first frost of the season. But as of Nov. 8, areas of central and southern half of Oklahoma have yet to have their first frost of the season.
But the National Weather Service in Norman expects parts of northwestern Oklahoma to receive their first frost of the season. The frost is expected early in the morning on Sunday, Nov. 10. Temperatures will be low enough and light/calm winds will allow for frost to accumulate in northwest Oklahoma.
