
It’s Been 10 Years Since Oklahoma’s Last Thanksgiving Ice Storm
Local meteorologists are expecting a chilly Thanksgiving for Oklahoma this year, and it's got some people thinking about the Thanksgiving ice storm of 2015. It's been 10 years since the ice storm impacted portions of western and central Oklahoma the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Oklahoma started shifting into a stormy weather pattern when rain finally returned to the state Wednesday evening. Oklahoma is expected to see a wetter weather pattern for the rest of November. And now there's a potential for an Arctic Blast around Thanksgiving.
Oklahoma was impacted by heavy rains and ice the weekend after Thanksgiving in 20215.
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Oklahoma was impacted by heavy rains, southeast Oklahoma saw 10 inches of rain, and freezing temperatures lead to freezing rain in western and central Oklahoma.
The weight of the ice on trees and powerlines lead to damaged property and 200,000 people being without power after Thanksgiving.

Meteorologists are hinting at ice and snow possibilities in Oklahoma after Thanksgiving this year.
Real arctic air is expected to impact Oklahoma again this year the weekend after Thanksgiving. According to KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan, the arctic air could move into Oklahoma starting Sunday, Nov. 30 or Monday, Dec. 1. He stated on his official Facebook page that this weather pattern does support snow and possible ice.

Hazardous cold temperatures could impact Oklahoma after Thanksgiving.
According to the NOAA, the Oklahoma panhandle and portions of northern, central and western Oklahoma could see hazardous cold temperatures when the arctic air moves in. The rest of Oklahoma can expect temperatures 20 degrees below normal Temperatures are expected to be below freezing, particularly in the single digits.
We're still over a week out from this upcoming arctic blast, so things could still change. So Oklahoma residents are encouraged to keep and eye on the forecast as they make their holiday plans, especially if traveling.
