Oklahoma is slowly transitioning from spring to summer. Most of the state could see severe storms over the weekend before a week of summer heat.

Parts of Oklahoma woke up to rumbles of thunder on Friday. Areas of northwest, western and southwest Oklahoma experienced a few severe storms Friday morning. The severe weather threat is expected to continue through the afternoon Friday and into early Saturday morning.

Storms Friday afternoon could start around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon and last through 3 a.m. Saturday. Storms are expected to start in the High Plains and southeastward into Oklahoma. Hail between quarter to golf ball sized hail is expected, along with damaging wind gusts from 60 to 70 miles per hour. The tornado threat is very low.

More severe weather expected Saturday afternoon and evening.

Severe weather will continue Saturday. Some storms are possible during the day Saturday but according to the National Weather Service in Norman, the main severe risk will be Saturday afternoon and evening.

Storms on Saturday could start as early as 2 p.m. Saturday evening and last through 8 p.m. Hail up to quarter size is expected, including damaging wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. The tornado threat is very low.

More strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening. Main hazards include large hail and marginally severe wind gusts.

Temperatures expected to be above average next week.

After the severe storms roll through over the weekend, temperatures are expected to become warmer next week and by the end of the week could be above average. A few storm chances will also be possible next week.
