Last year broke records for the number of tornadoes in Oklahoma for a single year. As of February 2025, 152 tornadoes have been verified in Oklahoma from 2024. Although last year was full of tornadoes for Oklahoma, Team Dominator is predicting a low tornado count for the state in 2025.

Team Dominator is lead by extreme meteorologist Reed Timmer who has PhD in meteorology from The University of Oklahoma. Timmer and Team Dominator chase tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards and any other extreme weather events across the United States.

Oklahomans are all too familiar with Timmer and Team Dominator as they have seen their tornado-proof cars during storm season flying through Oklahoma or stopping to get gas in various towns. And when spotted, even though the car is cool and Team Dominator as a strong social following, it usually isn't a good sign.

Team Dominator predicts 60 tornadoes for Oklahoma in 2025.

Last year, Team Dominator predicted Oklahoma will see 90 tornadoes. That seems a bit low when compared with the current verified tornado count of 152 for 2024.

But Team Dominator is predicting an even lower number of tornadoes for 2025. They're predicting Oklahoma will see 60 tornadoes in 2025, which be a below normal amount for Oklahoma. Timmer is expecting 2025 to be a return of Dixie Valley tornado outbreaks.

Timmer expects the tornadoes in Dixie Valley this spring "will likely come in the form of a few to several major outbreaks with subseasonal bursts in severe weather." The Dixie Valley has seen a somewhat break from this above average severe weather for two to three years.

A shift to the Dixie Valley this spring doesn't mean Oklahoma won't see dangerous tornadoes.

Although Oklahomans could use a break from tornadoes after a historic 2024, Timmer reminded Oklahoma that the last active Dixie Valley in 2013, Oklahoma saw two historic, destructive tornadoes. Oklahoma's last EF5 struck Moore on May 20, 2013. And the largest tornado in history formed outside of El Reno on May 31, 2013.

The Ten Most Tornado-Prone Counties in America

When it comes to the topic of tornadoes, Oklahoma is universally known around the world for producing some of the biggest, including the last F6 ever measured... but it'd probably surprise most Okies that the Sooner State doesn't even crack the top five of the most tornado-prone counties in America.
