82nd Annual Lawton Rangers Rodeo Underway at LO Ranch Arena
Night one of the Lawton Rangers Rodeo is in the books. An almost perfect evening with temperatures in the 80's, and after an early morning rain, hardly any dust!
The longhorn steers returned to the LO Ranch Arena once again this year, and what a majestic sight to see as they surround the Rodeo Queen carrying the National Flag into the arena and milling peacefully while the National Anthem was sung! These longhorns and their wranglers added a special element to the opening ceremonies of this years rodeo.
An abundance of entries to this year's event, caused I'm sure by Rodeos cancelling all across the country, has caused Lawton Rangers to add Slack competition. These are competitions that have to be run outside of the regular events, and from the sound of some of the scores announced last night, these athletes put on great performances without a crowd to watch!
Attendees to last night's Way Back Wednesday carload night, were granted entry to the rodeo grounds for just $5 a carload. They weren't left without great entertainment either, with Arena records broken.
My favorite events are Barrel Racing and Bull Riding. Both of those events were great, but in totally different ways. In Barrel Racing, a new arena record was set, but in the Bull Riding...clearly it was the Bulls that won! At least in the competition that was featured in last night's events.
Tonight is Tough enough to Wear Pink night. Guest are asked to wear pink to honor those who have battled Cancer, and to the survivors and those that lost their battle.
The Gates open at 6pm, Grand Entry starts at 7:30pm and the Rodeo at 8pm at the LO Ranch Arena, 2004 SE 60th St. Lawton.
