Lawton’s Heroes Unite For A Blood Drive To Aid Flood Victims
The Lawton Police Department and Lawton Fire Department will host its annual Boots and Badges Blood Drive this Saturday, but instead of their usual competition, the departments are coming together to help those devastated by the recent Texas floods.
Each year, the Boots and Badges Blood Drive is a friendly competition between the departments to see who can get the most people donate. But this year, the departments are putting the competition aside to dedicate the drive of those effected by the flooding in Texas that occurred Independence Day weekend.
This year's blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the the Great Plains Coliseum Prairie Building.
Donating blood is a simple and easy way to help those affected by the devastating flooding in Texas.
Once people heard about the flooding in Texas that occurred over July 4 weekend, people around the country were seeking ways to help, especially those in neighboring Oklahoma. Some people journeyed down to Kerrville to assist with disaster relief, and some local businesses raised funds for specific groups helping those in south Texas impacted by the flooding.
Even though its been almost two weeks since the floods occurred, there is still work to be done in the Texas communities that faced the floods and there are still those who need medical attention. Natural disasters, like the floods in Texas, can lessen the blood reserves locally and nationally, which is why donating blood right now is crucial and why the Lawton Police Department and the Lawton Fire Department are dedicating the Boots and Badges Blood Drive to those affected by the Texas floods.
