Oklahoma Temperatures Dropping Below Freezing This Weekend
It has been a warm start to the new year in Oklahoma, but we are still in the middle of winter and an upcoming arctic blast will plummet Oklahoma's temperatures. Oklahomans have three days to get ready for the arctic blast that will move through Sunday, Jan. 5.
A storm system will move through Oklahoma on Sunday that will steadily decrease temperatures throughout the day and will bring in some winter precipitation for a few areas of Oklahoma. After the arctic blast moves through, wind chill temperatures in Oklahoma on Monday, Jan. 6 will be in the single digits and teens.
Will it snow in Oklahoma?
This storm system will bring precipitation with it but where it lands and what form it will come in is still up in the air. According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a winter storm is expected to move through southern and central Plains on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5.
Rain is most likely for Oklahoma. Some areas of Oklahoma could see snow on Sunday. Those in northern Oklahoma near the Kansas/Oklahoma border are the ones with the best chance of seeing snow this weekend.
This won't be Oklahoma's only chance for winter weather. January is historically Oklahoma's coldest month, but Oklahoma has seen winter weather well into February. So if this upcoming artic blast doesn't bring snow to Oklahoma this weekend, there's still a chance for Oklahoma to be covered in a blanket of white by Valentine's Day.
Does anyone remember the winter storm Oklahoma received on Feb. 14, 2021?
