Oklahoma’s First Frost Won’t Arrive Till Late October

These 100-degree days in Oklahoma have me dreaming of cooler weather. It's always like that isn't it? When it's too cold, Oklahomans are counting down the days to summer. And when it's too hot, we're reminiscing of those crips, fall mornings. But it looks like we may be in for a long hot streak.

I've noticed a few stores around town have already started getting out their fall and Halloween decorations. And it won't be long till we see Spirit Halloween occupying some abandoned businesses. According to The Farmers' Almanac, the first official day of fall is September 23. After this scorching summer, we'll be happy to hear that cooler temperatures are on the way.

The Farmers' Almanac is predicting a cooler fall for Oklahoma with above-normal precipitation. And we thought we had a wet summer... I guess we can look forward to a wet fall, too. But with cooler temperatures, wet can mean more than just rain!

But as we move through our pumpkin-spice days, we won't see chilly, frost-like temperatures until late October. The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting the first frost in Oklahoma on October 31. So you might want to think about warm costumes for your little ones on Halloween. But October 31 could be an earlier first frost than average. According to the Oklahoma Climatology Survey, most areas of Oklahoma don't receive the first frost of the season until the first or second week of November.

Be watching the weather around Thanksgiving this year.

If you travel during Thanksgiving, you may want to have a good look at the forecast before you hit the road, or jump on a plane. The Farmers' Almanac is predicting a calm Thanksgiving for everyone east of the Mississippi River, but for us to the west, we'll possibly see "unsettled conditions." I'm assuming this either means snow, ice or both. We'll just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us!
