Oklahoma Is One of the Top 10 States People Are Fleeing
Despite a slight population increase, Oklahoma was one of the top 10 states people fled from in 2023.
U-Haul released its 2023 Growth Index on Jan. 2 and outlined the states people moved to and moved from over the last year. And it looks like Oklahoma was one of the states people were fleeing from in 2023.
According to the report, Texas ranked as the state that received the largest number of one-way movers for the third year in a row. And California had a net loss of one-way movers for the fourth year in a row.
Below are the top 10 states that received the most one-way movers:
- Texas
- Florida
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Idaho
- Washington
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Virginia
Where did people move from in 2023?
U-Haul not only tracked where people moved to in 2023, but also the states people moved from, and Oklahoma ranked in the top 10 of the states being fled. According to an article from FinanceBuzz, "even though Oklahoma ranked low on U-Haul's growth list, the state actually saw a slight population increase (of) .86 percent from 2022."
FinanceBuzz also referenced data from the Census Bureau stating that "from July 1, 2022 to July 1, 2023, Oklahoma's population increased by a new 34,553 people with 23,587 of them coming to Oklahoma from other states."
Well, I guess there's other ways to move than just renting a U-Haul.
Below are the top 10 states that people moved away from in 2023:
