Does Oklahoma have the worst neighbors in America?

I've lived in Lawton, Oklahoma for a majority of my life, so I've had quite a few neighbors. Over the years, I've had some great and some very bad neighbors. Oklahoma is typically known for having exceptionally nice people, but sometimes, that Oklahoma hospitality gets swept down the plains when it comes to neighbors.

I'll confess, I've heard some pretty crazy stories of people with some neighbors who are either uncomfortably nosy, have no regard for personal space, don't care that their dogs run rampant through the neighborhood and, what I think is the worst quality a neighbor could have, being absolutely GROSS, like leaving bags of trash piling up, etc.

Recently, our Sweet Home Oklahoma ladies talked about how neighbors are the worst on their podcast and I just had to share Pumps' crazy neighbors story about how one lady wrote her a two-page, single spaced letter about how her laundry detergent stinks. I mean, if this story isn't the definition of a crazy neighbor, I don't know what is. Apparently, the letter was unsigned, but Pumps knows who it is and she has a great plan for her revenge: dump that detergent all over that neighbor's lawn and wait for the sprinklers to turn on. Genius.

So, does Oklahoma have the worst neighbors in the country?

After hearing this story, I decided to look up on the internet to see if Oklahoma has some of the worst neighbors in America. I read through several different surveys and didn't find Oklahoma mentioned anywhere! Except, I did find a study of the best and worst neighbors in America that included Oklahoma.

According to the study, only 53 percent of people surveyed in America said they talk to the neighbors once a week or less. That's vastly different than in the 1970s when two our of five people said they spend at least one social evening a month with a neighbor. I doubt some people even know their neighbors today!

The study surveyed over 2,000 people in 25 of the biggest cities across the country, including Oklahoma City. Here were the key takeaways:

• 64 percent knew either some or all of their neighbors, and 58 percent consider them friends
• One in three said their neighbors annoy them once a week or more with general noise, loud parties and parking issues
• The worst neighbors in the country, according to their neighbors, are in Fort Worth, Texas, while the best are in Phoenix, Arizona.

As you can see, Oklahoma City didn't get worst or best neighbors in the country, but Oklahoma City did rank in the top three for least annoying neighbors. I don't know about you, but if I lived in Oklahoma City and received a two page letter about how my laundry detergent stinks and nobody likes me and my family because of said stinky laundry detergent, I would consider that extremely annoying.
