Valentine’s Day Weekend Brings Storms And Much-needed Rain
Good news for Oklahoma: rain chances are increasing with this weekend's system. Rain chances will return Thursday evening, but the biggest chances for rain are Friday and Saturday.
If your Valentine's Day plans involve any outdoor activity, then you may want to pay attention to the forecast and have a backup plan ready. Rain chances are continuing to increase with a system that's headed for Oklahoma. Heavy rainfall is expected, along with thunderstorms.
Rain is expected to begin late Thursday night in Oklahoma.
The system will begin moving into Oklahoma late Thursday night and into Friday morning. Biggest chances for rain will be Friday night into Saturday morning.
Heaviest rain expected early Saturday morning across Oklahoma.
Heavy rainfall is expected with this system that could lead to possible flooding. Heavier rain is expected early Saturday morning. However, some heavy rain in the late Friday hours can't be ruled out.
One to two inches of rain are expected, but locally higher amounts are possible. The heavy rain could lead to flooding in some locations, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Ponding is also possible on roadways.
Fire weather conditions will return to Oklahoma early next week.
Even though Oklahoma is exceptionally dry and in desperate need of rain, this weekend's system won't quench the drought completely or void the state of any fire danger. Elevated and near-critical fire weather is expected early next week for portions of western and northwest Oklahoma.
However, according to the National Weather Service in Norman, the overall fire danger for next week is conditional, depending on the amount of rain this weekend and how quickly the vegetation dries out. Oklahoma's fire weather has been increasing due to very dry and unseasonably warm and windy conditions.
