Lots of Rain and Severe Weather On Tap for Oklahoma This Week
One think Oklahomans are always praying for is rain. During the summer, you'll see little yard signs around small towns in the Sooner State saying just that: pray for rain. Well, this week, Oklahoma can switch their prayers to no tornadoes because a lot of rain is in the forecast. And, of course, severe weather.
Severe weather expected Tuesday, May 28.
Some Oklahomans woke up Tuesday, May 28 to early morning storms that brought heavy rains, high winds and hail. Another round with the same risks are expected Tuesday evening, anywhere from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday, May 29.
Oklahomans west of I-44 are at a slight risk of hail up to baseball size and winds anywhere from 60 to 80 miles per hour.
With all this rain, most of southwest Oklahoma is at a slight flash flood risk. Remember to turn around and don't drown!
More severe weather expected Thursday, May 30.
As we wrap up May, more rain and severe weather continue in the forecast. Oklahomans could see a 20 to 60 percent chance of rain Wednesday, but severe weather will return Thursday, May 30.
Main hazards for Thursday include damaging winds and large hail. Those in western and southwest Oklahoma are at a slight risk for severe weather. Of course, things could change between now and then so it's important to remain weather aware!
Rain chances will continue into the weekend.
If you thought the rain would taper off by the end of the week, you'd be wrong. Oklahoma will start June with more rain. Chances for thunderstorms will occur each day as we kick off summer.
