Oklahoma City Could See Summer Olympic Events

I never thought anywhere in Oklahoma would host the Olympics, but it looks like Oklahoma City is being considered to host some events for the 2028 Summer Olympics!

According to OKCTalk, Oklahoma City's Riversport is being highly considered to host the 2028 Summer Olympics event canoe slalom. The Games are to be held in Los Angeles, California, but to cut cost, Oklahoma City offers something Los Angeles doesn't have: an existing whitewater facility.

Last year, Sports Travel Magazine reported that the International Canoe Federation (ICF) mentioned that the canoe slalom competition for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics "could be moved out of state," and hinted that the relocation could be Oklahoma City's Riversport. According to OKC Fox 25, a representative from the ICF confirmed this consideration.

"I can confirm that we are continuing to hold discussions with LA28 regarding options for a host venue for canoe slalom for the Olympics," said ICF representative Ross Solly to OKC Fox 25. "As you will know, we have already had several events at your excellent Oklahoma facility, and are in close contact with venue management and American Canoeing to ensure if this is the option that is decided, it will meet all the requirements as specified by the IOC. We are hoping to have a decision very soon."

Oklahoma City is already home to a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site for America's top rowing and canoe/kayak athletes. Riversport OKC also hosts several national and international competitions throughout the year. There's also a ton of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy!
