Multiple Oklahoma counties are expected to experience elevated fire weather several days this week. The National Weather Service in Norman has already issued a Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch for several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, fire weather chances are expected to increase this week due to warm, dry and windy conditions. Portions of western Oklahoma are at the greatest risk for increased fire danger threats this week.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for western Oklahoma this Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of western Oklahoma on Tuesday. The Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued for portions of western and central Oklahoma. The Fire Weather Watch will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire weather is also expected to remain elevated or near-critical on Thursday for a majority of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma residents strongly encouraged to avoid sparking a wildfire.

This week, Oklahoma residents should refrain from any activities that could spark a wildfire. According to Comanche County/Lawton Emergency Management, a majority of wildfires are caused by humans. Human activities that can cause wildfires include dragging trailer chains, welding or grinding, parking vehicles in dry grass, burning debris and tossing cigarettes.

Oklahoma residents this week should avoid outside burning, triple check that trailer chains are secured and not dragging and delay spark-producing work. Residents should also immediately call 911 to report smoke.
