Winter is coming for Oklahoma! Winter Storm Blair brought freezing temperatures to Oklahoma, and some ice and flurries for the northern and central parts of the state. But winter is just getting started. Another winter system is set to bring up to six inches of snow to Oklahoma on Thursday, Jan. 9.

As Winter Storm Blair continues its path through the southern states, Oklahoma meteorologists are looking ahead at the state's next winter impact. Later this week, Oklahoma has a strong chance of receiving a bout of ice and snow, with some areas expected to receive up to six inches of snow.

Due to the freezing temperatures that were brought by Winter Storm Blair, the upcoming ice and snow is expected to accumulate on already cold ground, which could make impacts more catastrophic and possibly break some of Oklahoma's snow records.

Snow is expected to impact southwest and eastern Oklahoma.

Northern and central Oklahoma received the recent precipitation from Winter Storm Blair. The rest of Oklahoma just got really, really cold. But on Thursday, areas of southwest and eastern Oklahoma are expected to get the bulk of the next winter system.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, "an impactful snow event" will makes it way through southern and eastern Oklahoma starting in the morning on Thursday, Jan 9 and through Friday, Jan. 10.

Southwest and eastern Oklahoma could see anywhere from three to six inches of snow on Thursday and into Friday. Eastern Oklahoma is expected to see the biggest impact from the winter storm. It's expected to be the first measurable snowfall of the season.

Be sure to stay weather aware as more updates about the upcoming snow become available! All Oklahomans know that the weather here keeps you on your toes - and this week's weather could freeze them off.
