Oklahoma has been on track for the driest December on record. Luckily, it looks like there's finally some rain chances in the extended forecast before the end of 2025.

The forecast is pretty much locked in for Christmas, and it's looking like a white Christmas won't be under the tree for Oklahoma. And Oklahoma has a chance to break some daytime high records with temperatures reaching the upper 70s and low 80s on Christmas Day.

Oklahoma expected to shift towards a wetter pattern by Dec. 30.

If you have an outdoor plans for New Year's, you may want to pay attention to the forecast. It's looking like Oklahoma may shift towards a wetter pattern by Dec. 30. And that wet pattern may continue into the first week of January.

Portions of Oklahoma are experiencing Extreme Drought.

Even though Oklahoma saw a historically wet spring and broke the six-year drought, the dry fall and winter have brought the drought back. Portions of Oklahoma are experiencing an Extreme Drought, while others are seeing a Severe Drought or Moderate Drought, plus areas that are Abnormally Dry.

Could Oklahoma see severe weather at the end of December?

According to Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer, this big warmups are often bookended with severe weather. And it's not unusual for Oklahoma to see severe thunderstorms and even tornadoes in December.

Some of the long-range models have even indicated that portions of Oklahoma could see an uptick in severe weather at the end of December.
