Oklahoma Could See An Uptick In Tornado Activity This September
Summer is coming to an end in Oklahoma. The state has been experiencing an early fall, and that may continue throughout September. But as the weather changes, Oklahoma could see an uptick in tornadoes.
Last year was a record year for tornadoes, and broke multiple records in the fall. Oklahoma saw almost 40 tornadoes last year between the months of September, October and November. Last year, Oklahoma saw the most fall tornadoes in November with 36 tornadoes.
Although Oklahoma sees the most tornadoes during the spring time, fall isn't without its fair share. Tornado activity often takes a rest during the late summer, but an uptick typically occurs towards the fall as the jet stream returns to the central United States, which increases the amount of cold fronts.
Oklahoma has received the most tornado warnings in the nation this year.
Oklahoma is a few tornadoes shy of the amount of tornadoes seen from January to August last year. Last year, Oklahoma received 113 tornadoes from January to August. This year, Oklahoma has had 97 confirmed tornadoes.
But Oklahoma has already had the most tornado warnings in the nation this year with 266, and 2025 isn't over yet. Last year, Oklahoma had 196 tornado warnings for the entire 12 months.
