
Help Clean Up the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge On National Public Lands Day

Residents of Lawton and southwest Oklahoma all enjoy the splendors of the refuge by having easy access to all the refuge has to offer, camping, hiking, beautiful scenery, enchanting wildlife and more. As a mom and a Nana, my family has spent many days at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge!

The refuge will also offer fun competitions for prizes, like most trash collected, most recyclables collected, largest item found and largest group. Volunteers should sign up by September 16.

This year's theme is 'Our Home Outdoors.'
This year's theme for National Public Lands Day is "Our Home Outdoors," which celebrates humans' "connection to the natural world." According to the National Park Service website, National Public Lands Day has taken place since 1994 and is a day when volunteers "help restore and preserve public lands."
Other opportunities on National Public Lands Day includes free admission to national parks that charge admission and some national parks have other special events the coincide with volunteer cleanup opportunities.
