
Lawton’s Roads Are Hazardous With Snow And Ice Sticking Around
Even though it hasn't snowed since early Sunday morning, Lawton roads remain in severe conditions! Temperatures have remained well below freezing, therefore the amount of snow and ice on the roads haven't changed much.
And based on this week's forecast, it might be another day or two before everything starts to melt. So as the week goes on, Lawton may continue to see closures due to road conditions.
All of the highways in Comanche County are in severe condition.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has an interactive road conditions map that's great for checking on current road conditions. As of noon Monday, Jan. 26, the highways around Lawton are in severe condition, meaning that driving conditions are dangerous and people should avoid driving.
Roads considered extremely hazardous across Lawton.
The City of Lawton gave an update on road conditions across Lawton on Sunday and stated that road conditions are Red, which means the roads are extremely hazardous. Travel is strong discouraged due to city roads, state highways and arterial roads being snow-covered and slick.
The City of Lawton's street crews have been operating seven trucks that have been plowing and sanding/salting main roads. If Lawton residents are out driving, they're encouraged to remain 200 feet behind work vehicles.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation expects sunshine to help with road conditions but warned drivers to be alert as overnight refreezing and black ice will remain a threat.
