Severe Weather Will Return To Oklahoma Friday

Spring weather has certainly come in full force this year in Oklahoma, and it looks like after a calm week, we'll start the weekend with severe weather potential Friday, April 14.

According to AccuWeather, storms will begin to emerge Thursday for our friends up north, and these thunderstorms should make their way to Oklahoma by Friday afternoon or evening. The National Weather Service in Norman is predicting that the potential for severe weather will exist mainly along and east of the US-81 corridor, as of Wednesday, April 12.

Main hazards with this round of potential severe weather is large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

Chance of precipitation is low for Friday.

When there's severe weather in the forecast in Oklahoma, it does make everyone weather aware, but it also has us praying for rain, especially when most of the state is experiencing a bad drought.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, most of northwest, west and southwest Oklahoma are experiencing either a moderate drought or exceptional drought.

But as of Wednesday, March 12, the precipitation chances are low, ranging from 15-40 percent, and rain probably won't get to where it's needed most in Oklahoma.

Drought and low precipitation chances make prime fire weather.

While severe weather is predicted for Friday, April 14, the National Weather Service is also predicting critical fire weather for western Oklahoma and western north Texas. These areas may see temperatures ranging from 78-88 degrees with winds out of the south from 22 to 26 miles per hour with wind gusts at 40 miles per hour.
