Oklahoma May Get a Fall Cold Front Next Week
We thought Oklahoma was going to end August on a hot note, but a last-minute strong cold front is looking like it will make its way to the state before the end of summer. Local meteorologists are expecting the cold front to come through and bring in fall-like temperatures, and moving the heat dome out east.
The heat is slowing tapering off in Oklahoma starting this weekend. Areas of northern and central Oklahoma are already seeing a break from 100-degree temperatures. But southwest Oklahoma is still feeling the heat. Honestly, this strong cold front can't come soon enough. All of Oklahoma is tired of summer!
When will the strong cold front come through Oklahoma?
Local meteorologists are expecting the strong cold front to come through Oklahoma sometime next week or weekend. Just in time to start meteorological fall on September 1! News 9 Meteorologist Lacey Swope expects this end of summer cold front to be the strongest of the summer. She indicated on her professional Facebook page that some of the future data is seeing temperatures closer to those expected in October rather than August.
No more heat dome over Oklahoma!
KTUL Meteorologist Colton Williams also expects that this coming weekend, August 24-25, will be the last weekend Oklahoma will be dominated by the heat dome.
Starting next week, Oklahomans, especially in northern Oklahoma, could start to see temperatures slowing decreasing.
What will fall be like in Oklahoma?
Hopefully, after this strong cold front, the cooler temperatures will be here to stay. But Oklahoma has known from past experiences that September can be a really hot month. A second summer in fall has already been predicted this year. While others have predicted Oklahoma to have a brisk and wet fall.
Either way, Oklahoma is expected to have second severe weather season this fall with an increase of hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. Again, based on past years, Oklahomans know that fall tornadoes are a real thing and can be dangerous.
But we'll just have to wait and see! But all Oklahomans are hoping the cooler temperatures will stay for a long time.
